Had a lovely, lovely time! What a fantastic place. Will come again…. And I bought a house! Jackie June 2010 |
Our first visit and it’s been both amazing and relaxing. In spite of all the relaxing we filled every day with new and breathtaking experiences; one worth mentioning is Villa D’Estate in Tivoli. The kids loved it. Abruzzo has everything. Fantastic nature with sea, lanes, mountains, forests and the most interesting culture. Thanks!

We found the house very well-equipped and comfortable with fantastic views. All of the day trips had wonderful scenery. We went twice to Lake Scanno; we hired a four-wheel bike the first time and a pedalo the second. Pescara, Silvi Marina beach cost 15 euros for an umbrella and two sunbeds from a lovely lady who owns the bar Skipper. The Acqua Garden at Corfinio was 50 euros (4 people) and had a café with very good value food, lovely fresh salads in the chiller and cooked food too.
All the villagers have been very friendly; love how they get together in the evenings outside the café and each other’s houses.
A lovely Italian, rural holiday.

What a lovely, charming place! The house has everything you could need. The locals are so friendly; we ate out in different people’s houses in the village and had a constant flow of gifts of fruit, wine, limoncello and vegetables.
Pop in and see Franca and Mimmo at the bar and they will make you feel very welcome. The restaurant we enjoyed the most was La Rocca delle Streghe in the village. We will be back very soon.

Thank you Ann and Roger! We had a lovely time. Scanno and its lake are gorgeous. Hired a pedal boat there and caught the evening sun. ate a great lunch at Biffi’s in Sulmona. We want to come back. Ted and Katrina September 2010 |
This second visit was even better than the first! We enjoyed a trip to Pescara and followed the road north along the coast as far as Pineto which was lovely.
A trip to Pompei was excellent but very tiring – 3 hours each way. The Amalfi coast was beautiful but scary with the Italian drivers and narrow roads. Abruzzo is far more unspoilt and we were gald to get back to the peace and quiet. Same week next year please! Liz, John and Jane. October 2010 |

Our first visit to Roccacasale and we’ve filled every day with amazing sights and experiences. A real gem is the Nature Reserve at Anversa degli Abruzzi with its ‘Flower Path’ walk.
We’ve covered almost all of the recommendations in your excellent file. Thank you for the detailed information. The simple way of life here and very friendly people coupled with the stunning views from the bedroom will remain with us for a long time.
Thank you. Adrienne, Mathew and Richard. |
Our first time in provincial Italy! Peaceful, beautiful and very hospitable.
The apartment was perfect.
We went up onto the Gran Sasso (one hour away) to walk from Rocca Calascio to San Stefano di Sessanio. The weather was atrocious but we could still appreciate its breathtaking beauty. We definitely recommend the eleventh century castle at Rocca Calascio (1500m) and the extremely well preserved village of San Stefano. The café here gave us the best and most authentic meal we had. Roccamorice is the place to go for climbing.
Thanks! Mike and Rebecca. |
Another great week in Abruzzo….. We recommend the walks around Roccacasale, the bubbling river at the Sorgente di Pescara, the cheap but tasty Chinese in Sulmona (!). L’Aquila and Vasto are also well worth a visit. We love it and will be back.
Thanks again to Roger and Ann for their hospitality. Gill and David. |
February 2009
We came for the skiing – had four excellent days at Roccaraso. Only a half hour dive to Pratello which has access to all the ski areas. Even though it snowed heavily the roads were still clear.
The paraffin stove has a timer so waking up and going to sleep was really toasty! |
Plenty of merry nights in and out of the house and with the locals.
We will be booking up again next year.
Ciao for now,
Andrea and Greg. |

We enjoyed the ambience of Roccacasale and the walks in the area. Plenty of enjoyable nights eating and drinking with a few of them starting at the Marytown bar by the hotel Ginestre.
The snow was good – too much at times. The lifts were great – no queues and the restaurants and bars very clean and good value.
Would recommend the skiing here and will probably come again even though I am not a lover of skiing!! The people are very friendly. Thanks for a great holiday.

Enjoyed a lovely week in Abruzzo. Seven days of absolutely gorgeous sunshine. Used Roccacasale as a base to explore the region.
We particularly recommend Pacentro, Sulmona and Scanno (beautiful lake), but really you can’t beat taking one of the many walks and enjoying a picnic.
Even ventured to Pescara to watch their football team. Great match as they needed to win to stay up. A lot of atmosphere and even better value at only one euro!!
Abruzzo is somewhere we will always return to.
Many thanks, Beth and Neil. |

A lovely stay in Roccacasale; lovely places to eat down the mountain; lovely friendly people around the village. Appartment was very cosy and wonderful views to look out on too.
A couple of shops nearby to buy food and other gifts.
Thank you, the Potters. |

First time in Italy and this is the right place to fully immerse in the local culture; including gifts of tomatoes and self brewed wine from the neighbours and outdoor coffee shop culture downstairs. Places to recommend; Sulmona - Ristorante di Clemente; Scanno – lift up to the mountains; many local food shops and restaurants. We had a great week!
Thanks Laure, Carsten, Mathilde & Maximilien. |
